Working in the fields
In the morning, children go to work in the fields everyday. In addition to plowing, seedling planting, watering, thinning, and harvesting, they also cook what they have grown and make ketchup, dried plums, and takuan.
※In the goat farm, compost made by fermenting goat dung is mixed and used in the field.
Self-sufficiency of lunch rice
We want the children to experience the process to produce delicious foods, play in nature, know the deliciousness of the earth’s grace. Wishing as such, we established an agricultural production corporation, secured a rice field in Minamiuonuma-shi, Niigata, and built a rice center. Finally, after 15 years, we realized the self-sufficiency of the rice from planting, harvesting, milling to shipping.
Lunch on the “Engawa” *
Children have daily lunch / snack on the “Engawa”.
Just like at home, cooks, nurturers, facility managers, and staff sit around the table together and eat with children. Children eat with those of different ages going to elder children with whom they want to eat together or inviting younger children who want to eat together. Meals are not served by adults but by children themselves. A child who can do it serves for a child who still can’t.

Serving meals by themselves
At Doronko , serving meals for younger children is a role for elder ones. Although this is not an assignment from teacher. As they work together, they experience situations where they rely on each other, express their own thinking, exchange opinions, accept the method of others, in order to make things advance. We practice the education of relying on each other, conflicting with each other, and teaching each other.
